This series of pictures is from the winter of 2003, 2004. I've been wanting to
try my hand at pictures of the northern lights for a while and so finally this
fall I picked up a used film camera. The digital camera I have just doesn't do
auroras well. This picture here was taken during one of the big magnetic storms
that the sun sent our way back in the fall. I was totally bummed for most of
the week because people all over the US were watching great auroras but up here
we were getting snow or overcast skies. So, one night it finally did open up
and it was crazy. The whole sky was pink, not the pink from city lights but a
different pink from the aurora. Pretty neat. This picture is looking almost
straight up.
