We finished up with the glacier lake trip early in the day. So, with time to kill we headed over to see the Gulkana glacier. I'd never been there but it turned out that Colleen had been here years ago on a family trip to Alaska. What a funny deal. So, it was a little sketchy getting out there but no big deal, the road deteriorates to glacial silt and old river bed but the whole thing's drivable. However, out at the turn around there was a big Ford Explorer parked right in the middle of it. Instead of backing out of there we tried turning around. And, as many people can testify sometimes I'm not so hot about direction following so I went forward when I wasn't supposed to. So, we got in this little gem of a situation. Here we are pretty early in the game. As you can see there are several big rocks dangerously close to my important truck parts. So, it was time to dig, dig, dig. Fortunately we had our MacGyver toolkit in the truck consisting of a spoon, a towel and a hydraulic bottle jack. With a little elbow grease and three hours...
