This past Fourth of July weekend Emily, Luke, Kelly, and I canoed the Gulkana River from Paxson Lake to Sourdough Creek. The trip is about
50 miles with 12 of it class 2 and 3 whitewater with one portage past a raging canyon (somebody else tried the canyon and put a hole in the bottom of their plastic old town).
So, to make it interesting we took Kelly's dogs. We started out with one dog in each canoe but that didn't work out well. So, before hitting the first rapids we switched it up and Kelly and I took her dogs.
I became in charge of Sarah, the grandmotherly dog. She was in charge of Henry. He's about Bergey's age but bigger. Here we are heading out as you can see, Sarah's into snoozing and Henry's a bit more apprehensive. He was pretty good most all of the time though.
