This is my DIY sled mark 1. Before the trip the plan was to ski/sled/snowshoe to the springs. Turns out I would’ve had better luck if it was a sled/snowshoe combo. Live and learn. I decided leading up to this trip that I will never wax my own skis again. That only leads to mental illness. It was a bear. Have since learned that in addition to doing a poor job, I didn’t wax them right so that contributed some to my slowness. This is a great set up otherwise though. Check the cooler, that is the only way to ride. Give yourself a nice seat. I call this position the chariot mode. The other mode is drop the belly over the cooler and knees on the skis danging off the back end. In chariot mode it went pretty much similar to the picture. However, one hand was on the yellow dry bag (containing winter gear) rather than on that chintzy yellow rope. Dumb rope was the only thing I didn’t do myself and so of course it broke in the first ten minutes.
