This is the navigation tower at Applegate Rocks. There was a really powerful storm that came through in 2001 or 2000 I believe. A 200 mile an hour gust was recorded in Cordova and the boats in the harbor there were all running trying to keep the docks from coming loose during an extremely high tide. Sounded like crazy times. So, this tower got bent out of shape during that storm. Surprisingly it's still standing. But, with the legs being made of 2" steel pipe that isn't quite as big a shock but still impressive the forces that bent it all up. I over flew it in January 2003 and it was still up although we'd added 300 pounds of battery to the platform about 10 feet off the ground.
