Bike to Work Month
From Sen. Murkowski I learned that this month is national bike to work month. That's pretty cool and I'm glad to hear she's started riding to work. However, this picture cracks me up. I'm sure it's completely real but doesn't the angle this picture's taken at make it almost look like they badly photoshopped her head onto somebody else riding a bike?
The caption is:
With the warmer weather of Spring, I have parked my car and started commuting to work on my bicycle. It saves gas, helps me get exercise, and it's fun too.
I really hope that was written by an out of state staffer. I mean isn't the weather around DC nice pretty much year round compared to up here, except for the occasional snow storm?

Pretty much nice all year eh? That deserves a rebuttal: it can get butt cold here too. Nice use of butt, eh? Of course, Alaska is so far outside of average as to be a completely different chapter in the book about weather, but for "down south" and even technically "the south," at least physically, not so much mentally, it is colder here than it ever was in Sitka in the winter! Take THAT!!! I'd like to bike to work (all grand 12 miles) but I'd be sharing the road with people who drive like me and it makes me nervous!
--"people who drive like me and it makes me nervous"-- Gods truth. I noticed your dad quit riding his bike so much soon after you got your learners permit... Grin.
Uh oh, Ive got a mean little streak of road rage with your name on it! I better not catch you on a bike!
Whoops! Ya know I'm just teasin' right M.E? Now that I think on it you never had an encounter with the Sitka cops for rocketing around in THE VAN (the phrase THE VAN must be spoken in hushed and reverent tones) armed with a spotlight and several rolls of TP. Unlike certain other parties hereabouts we could mention but won't...
Yeah, as long as we're dusting off skeletons I'd like to add the following items to the public record:
Adam and I were stopped twice by the cops (two different new years: bottle rockets one year, spotlighting drunks on Lincoln st & Katlian the first).
Add jumping a ditch in the Jet Steam truck at the corner of Pherson and Charteris (hence the huge dent in the bumper).
Getting pulled over, hands covered in vaseline from TPing (etc.) Jackie Collier's car (and then her parents cleaned it for her before she woke up *sigh*).
Getting kicked out of a parking lot in Juneau for TPing Jackie's brother's rental car at the movie theater out in Medenhall Valley (Aaron Bisson freaked when the manager got angry and rushed inside to track down Jackie's brother who was maybe an assistant strength coach or something like Joe Mukpik and was watching movies with some girl who wasn't his girlfriend...).
Hmm, there are more, I started writing stuff in a little book when I was down in Sitka so I could fill in the details later. Maybe now that school's out again it's a good time.
